A primitive version of one of Specify 5.2's new features slipped out with the release of Specify 5.1. This feature is designed to removed data from your database that is not used. These items are simply floating around without any place to call home and the unused record removal tool will get rid of them. However, DO NOT use the incarnation of this tool that is found in the file menu of Specify 5.1. It has not been tested and does not work for all tables yet anyway. This new feature will be more robust and documented in Specify 5.2. Until then, please do not use this feature.

We have removed this beta test feature in Specify 5.1.1.  It will be fully implemented and supported in Specify 5.2.  We are testing it now.  Jim B.
