Specify web interface crashing with Windows 2003

The documentation says that if you are using Windows 2003 you should use Sun Application Server to avoid crashing. After further testing, it has been found that Sun Application Server will also crash on Windows 2003 machines. We have not figured out what is causing this to happen, but we are looking into it. If you notice this behavior please let us know what you were doing when it happened. As soon as I can figure out what is causing this I will fix it and push out a patch. We have not seen this on any other operating systems yet.
Thanks,
CJ

I went through the code and found a rogue database connection that was left open. Over time, this was causing a memory error and the Java Virtual Machine was crashing. This is why there is no log message when the JSP container goes down. I have modified the code and fixed a few other bugs while I was at it and have pushed out a patch until the next version of Specify comes out. You should apply this patch no matter what operating system you are using. All you need to do is unzip the file and replace the webTemplates directory in your Specify directory under webFiles. Then you can create a new template and everything should be fine from there. If you have any questions, contact us and we will be happy to help!
You can find the patch at: http://www.specifysoftware.org/Specify/specify/download/SpecifyApplicationDownloads/webTemplates.zip
