Agent Formatting Problems
If you have ever encountered this message:
Then you have probably encountered it several times. This message means that you have an agent field that is not formatted correctly and does not have formatting defined for some agent type. The field that is causing a problem is most likely a 'Collectors' field. The error will occur if specified your own formatting for the field in previous versions of Specify. With the release of Specify 5.0, collectors are no longer limited to single people. This addition added more agent types that require formatting as well. Thus, if you have modified your formatting from the default, the error occurs.
The fix for this can be performed by following these steps, please note that you will have to do this for each field that is causing an error.
Determine which field is causing the error.
This is easier said than done in many cases. The easiest way to find out which field is causing the problem is to note which form the error is taking place on. Then edit that form. The field could be in a subform or grid on the containing form so it may be difficult to determine which one it is. I would suggest looking at Collectors fields first. Check the agent fields by selecting to edit " Field Properties" and then check the "Format" button. If the text is bold, then click on the button. If the error message appears, you have found the field.
Once you have determined which field is causing the problem you have a couple of options to solve it.
- You can back up out of formatting and select to "Clear Format". This is the easiest method. It will restore this field's formatting to the Specify default. However, if you want formatting that is different than the default, this method will not work for you.
The second method takes a bit more work, but it allows you to specify the formatting you want. You will want to make sure that you
have formatting specified for each tab.
- Once you have corrected your formatting, save the form and check to see if the error occurs any more. If the error is gone then you are done. If the error keeps happening, you may have another field to fix as well.
