Data Entry Forms Gallery
Because of the variety of data types used by different institutions and disciplines, most collections benefit by tailoring Specify data entry forms to their own requirements. Specify enables you to configure data forms by adding or removing our default fields, creating new fields, re-naming fields, and by changing the order, size and location of fields on a form. Specify also lets you choose among grid, button and standard data boxes for displaying fields of embedded subforms. You can also customize usage notes for each field. Usage notes are helpful guides about your preferred use of a field that pop-up with a right mouse click.
To set up a new Specify database, you can start from scratch and customize the default data entry forms which we include for each collection discipline (we are happy to help registered collections do this), or you can choose to start with someone else's data entry forms and customize Specify's "look and feel" from there. In this way, collections can leverage others' work on data entry form customizations.
In the submenu items to the left, we provide captured screen images and links to customized data entry forms for several taxonomic disciplines. These data entry forms are downloadable and can be imported into your copy of Specify.
If you have customized Specify data entry forms and would be willing to make them available to your colleagues, we would be delighted to post them here along with any usage notes you might have. Please let us know if you would consider sharing your custom forms.
